Those of you who know me, will already know that I’m not a fan of the cold hard faceless sell but am a huge fan of the personal touch! And that’s partly why The Supermums Craft Fair works so well because when you buy something from a stall, you’re not buying from a large corporation, you’re buying from a small business who cares! Behind every stall is a person and I have always encouraged them to come out and say hello in their descriptions and now I have taken it that one step further with this fabulous feature so you can get to know them even better!
Each week a stall holder from the super duper website will be chosen to become…yes you guessed it… Stall Holder Of The Week! This award is given to someone who has been seen out and about networking their stall and generally being an absolute star! And this week the award goes to…. drum roll please…
The lovely Katy from Knitted From The Heart! Congratulations on being the latest stall holder of the week Katy! Let’s start off by finding out a little bit about the face behind the stall shall we, so don’t be shy, tell us a little bit about yourself! Well…. here goes! I’m Katy, the person behind Knitted From The Heart. I’m married to Phil and have been for 3 years now. We have 3 beautiful children, Jackson is 3, Lexie is 2 and Zachary has just turned 1! Yes I know what you’re thinking and yes we are a bit mad!! I am so lucky that they all get on really well (not sure how long that will last though ha ha!) We also have 3 dogs, Lou Lou (whose just had pups - unplanned may I add!), Marley and Ruby and a Cat called “Puss” so as you can see we have a very busy house!
My only interests (apart from knitting/crafting obviously) are shopping and trucks. Yes my interests couldn’t be more diverse! I love a good shop (mainly online) whether it be for crafts, clothes anything really lol! I’m a sucker for ebay and internet shopping and hubby hates it! He keeps his credit card tucked away so far in his wallet it doesn’t know what daylight is!!! As for my interest in trucks…. well that started when hubby got his truck licence a few years ago (which is what he does for a living now) but we both love going to the truck shows…. even when I was 8 months pregnant with Zachary cleaning the truck for the competition!! Crazy I know!!
Wow, what a busy household you have! So tell us Katy, how old were you when you first picked up your knitting needles and can you remember what the first thing you ever made was…. Well it wasn’t too long ago… Jackson had just been born so it was around 3 and a half years ago! I was wanting something to do with my spare time in the evening once Jackson had gone to bed, so I decided to teach myself to knit. The first thing I knitted was a dog…. I cringe when I look back on it now but I do still have it.
I am amazed, I assumed you had been knitting for years as your work is so amazing! And talking of you work, lets talk Christmas Trees! Tell us how they came about! Oh my Christmas Trees. Aren’t these always a talking point! I can’t wait to get started on these again this year! It started with a basic pattern from a lady who I’ve got to know quite well (she now supplies all my lace to make the trees) and I just thought I’d give them a go. That was a couple of years ago now and since then I’ve developed the pattern to make the larger trees myself.
They certainly are a talking point, I love them! You also make the most gorgeous hair accessories, you have a little girl, does she want to keep them all! My little Lexie…. I was so excited to discover I was having a girl second time around, little did I know she would want to be just like her big brother! She’s not really a girly girl but I still do like to do her hair
She’s got more ‘Pretty’ accessories than she has of mine lol! She does get excited when she gets a new ‘Pretty’ package in the post though
Ha! Bless her! So if you had to pick, what would be your favourite item on your stall right now and why? My favourite item? If it was a little nearer christmas I would say one of the Christmas Trees but as we are still a few months away I’m going to choose my Daisy Headband. Everyone seems to love this and I do too! I’ll be adding more in the future in different colours but I like this as it looks just like daisies.
With 3 young children, a house full of pets, just how do you manage between your home and working life? Well its definitely a juggling act! I work mostly in the evenings (I’m lucky to have great sleepers!) but the children do go to nursery 3 mornings a week to help me out when I get really busy. They all really enjoy it and the girls who look after them are fantastic which makes it easier. They also spend Friday night and Saturday with Nannan and Parge (Grandad) who they absolutely love so I get a day there too
A question I always love to ask….. and you have to answer honestly…. just how big is your wool and fabric stash… My wool stash is huuuggge! Too big really! Especially now I’m doing more and more with felt and fabric. I think my felt stash is probably the worse, I have way more than I need. I also have quite a bad need for buttons (again ebay is my weakness!) I’m always buying them in from China as they make such lovely ones. I have some in my drawer that I know I’ll never use as they’re just too pretty to give away!
Burning question and its one that every stall holder of the week must be asked… chocolate or wine… Oh it has to be Chocolate… I’m not a drinker at all and haven’t been since my teens. I think I did most of my life’s drinking back then before I had the children!! With being pregnant for just about 3 years straight you kind of get out of the habit of having a drink… as for chocolate though…. I’ll never refuse a wispa. Or a twirl. Or an aero. Or a ripple lol!
Stop it, you’re making me hungry! Next question and its a toughie….If you could only pick one stall to be your favourite on the website, which one would it be and why… Oh no…. I look at this question every week and just wonder how they choose…. now its my turn…. I’m going to choose Lisa’s Lovely Things. I’ve had a couple of things from her now and they are just lovely. Her tea cosy’s are just brilliant and I really need to go and buy a teapot just so I can have a tea cosy! I’m a little bit envious that she can crochet (crochet is a nemesis of mine! I’ve not yet mastered it) Can I be naughty and mention Pretty Essentials too? I love everything on that stall and Sarah knows all too well how much!!
You can be naughty, funnily enough I don’t mind ;) Well its been lovely talking to you Katy, but one last question before I let you go…. What would you like the future to have in store for Knitted From The Heart …. At the moment I’m happy as I am especially on my page. I have some wonderful customers who keep coming back and I can’t tell you how grateful I am to them as some of them have been there from the start
As for The Supermums Craft Fair…. more sales would be fabulous! I’m hoping when the children get older and start school I can look at my own stall in a craft centre or something of the like but thats in a few years time…. for now I’m happy the way things are
As I’m sure you will agree, Katy was a fabulous choice for the stall holder of the week award! How she manages it all is beyond me! Of course, there are so many other stalls who have been stars over the last week and they deserve a special mention too. Sadly I can’t pick all of them so each week I will pick just 4 and this week, in no particular order, special mentions are going out to….
Before you go…these are a few of my favourite things…. There are so many amazing and gorgeous products on the website, so many talented stall holders! Each week I will picking just a few of my favourites items to share with you and these are just some of them…. Why not take a little time and browse the site to find your own…
If you would like to meet some more stall holders then why not join the group Supermums Chatty Room on Facebook! Its a place for all stall holders to show off their stalls and get to know each other but everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun. After all, what could be better than chatting and shopping with friends! And please do come back next week to see who has been chosen as the next… Stall Holder Of The Week…. xxx
